It was a good weekend for the Spanish I would have to say. I am sure there are still people celebrating the Euro 2008 victory on Sunday and many of those people are in the city of Toronto.

Today there should be more great news for a certain Spanish PG that lives in the GTA. Once Jose Calderon gets back to his crib after partying with his countrymen and women, there should be a voice mail from BC saying “can I see you in the principal’s office”?

Today is the opening day to the free agent frenzy in the NBA and Calderon will be on the of the guys getting a huge pay raise. With T.J. Ford gone, it seems almost obvious that Calderon will be back in Toronto leading the team.

That does not mean other teams are not calling.

The Clippers have spoken with Jose Calderon, and like the way he hands out Gatorade at half time along with his PG skills of course.

Can I see Calderon going to the Clips? No way Jose. I think the Leafs have a better shot at winning the Cup next year than any other team grabbing Calderon.

By trading Ford the Raps have turned the keys over to the Spanish guard and now he is set to be the toast of the town.

Why on earth would you leave to go play for a doomed franchise out on Los Angeles? Now if the Lakers called that would be a whole new story.

So at some point today (maybe even now) we will all see how much Calderon is going to get paid. I am sure it will be a lot and then the pressure is on for Jose to do what he did for a brief time, for a full season.

I think he can but once the salary bump kicks in, so do the expectations and all of the nay-sayers waiting for him to flop.
