Futures odds to win the 2009 NBA Championship

Lakers are the faves.

Raptors check in at +3500

It is with no surprise that Vegas is already looking ahead to next season in the NBA. It is also no surprise that they have the Lakers pegged as the favorite (+250) to win it all. One might think the Celtics (+300) would be the favorite considering they just won the title and look like a lock to fight for it again. But with the love the Lakers get from sportsbooks and bettors and the fact that Andrew Bynum will be back, it makes sense to me.

Personally after looking at the board I would toss a few bucks on the Hornets (+1200). I think the stock of the Pistons (+800) is way to high considering they will most likely bust up the team.

Finally my Raps (+3500). They are always a good ATS team but never get any futures odds respect. I am just glad to see five teams ahead of them in the East and I am not sold on the Bulls being listed at +2000. I am sure getting Rose has helped oddsmakers give them a decent number.

The Hornets seem like a pretty good value at +1200, as well as the Clippers at +4000. The Rockets seem to be way overrated.

I’d spend my $20 this way:

$10 on my hometown Hawks…hell that’d be some good money
$5 on New Orleans - gotta love Chris Paul
$3 on Portland - franchise definitely on the rise
$1 on Clippers - strong young nucleus, two stars (counting Brand)
$1 on Cleveland - LeBron does amazing things.

The Hawks aren’t likely to win but the +6000 is arguably a good deal. Remember this team improved itself a lot at the end of the season, and only the Cavs came closer to beating the Celtics in the playoffs. When you look at teams like the Suns and Mavs (+2000) who suck, and the Blazers (2200) who we don’t have a good gauge on, and who all have to face tougher opponents, that Hawks bet starts to look like good odds on a long shot.

You would be crazy to pick against the Celtics. Did you see how they dominated, now they are coming back with the confidence that they know they can beat everybody. The Lakers play in the West and with the pick up of Posey by the Hornets and a healthy Spurs team, the Lakers may not even come out of the West. With all that being said, barring any injuries or blockbuster trades in the East the Celtics will win again and it will take far less time to do it than this year.

20$ on Nets just because its my favorite team.
a cent on the Knicks, my hometown LOL.
30$ on Celtics.
10$ on Magic.
