It was a busy and enjoyable weekend in Da Fax for Cuzzy and Co.
On Saturday we attended the first day of the first annual Summersonic in Halifax. For those from around the world, basically it was a lineup of pretty solid bands playing in front of a gathering of people on Citadel Hill.
On Sunday after recovering from sitting and laying on the ground for several hours the day before, we thought what better way to spend a Sunday then walking down the road to The Oxford Theatre to see The Dark Knight. More on that later.
Dinner is soon so I want to get it posted before I forget anything. We have a visitor from out of town staying with us this week so the Cuzoogle office will be busy.
So back to Saturday. The day was pretty normal with breakfast and discussions about the movie we watched the night before. We checked out Harold & Kumar 2: Escape from Guantanamo Bay. It was pretty much what we expected, silly bathroom humour with a lot of pot jokes and pokes at the PC crowd of America. The soundtrack is actually worth checking out if only for this great song.
After cleaning up, walking the dog and getting ready we headed to Citadel Hill to get good seats for the festival. We are both the type to be early for everything so we wanted to get there before the rush. Funny thing there was no rush of people and we got a great spot on the hill and were never really bothered by people around us.
The sun was hot and the atmosphere was about as relaxing as I was hoping for. There were food booths all around that we would test out as the day went on.
The musical list included Rebekah Higgs, In-flight Safety, Tokyo Police Club, The Weakerthans and finally City and Colour to close it out.
Small crowd when she took the stage so it was hard for her to muster up any feeling. I had never heard of her or her music but I did like what I was listening to. She is a mixture of soft vocals and rock but it was hard to tell what category she would fall into. The songs I liked had a lot of guitar riffs and some crazy keyboard action. Some of her band was missing but I don’t think that had any influence on the performance.
Intake: cold water
The crowd started to come in at this point and the sun was really hot. Time for sunscreen. This band was probably my favourite of the day. The music was upbeat and loud and perfect for a summer afternoon. The white pants the lead singer on were pretty tight and a hit with the crowd. I will be looking up their music this week.
Intake: Warm, slimy pretzels and pop
Now for a band that I have heard from and that I know from Kyle’s Six Pix. They were loud and a lot of fun and the crowd got into these guys from Toronto. The rain came briefly but it did not have people running for cover. The crappy part about this set was the painful break from the time they ended until the next act was on.
Intake: Hamburger, falafel, pop
Good music but at this point I needed more to keep me interested. It was too bad that as the day went on the more mellow the bands got. After sitting on a hill in the sun all day we were both feeling the affects. Damp towels on the butts and sore joints were making us a little sleepy and looking forward to the night ending. Not to say we did not have fun, just a long day.
Intake: Slice of pizza, water
After a day of people watching, hill sitting and eating crappy food it was time for the headline act to hit the stage. City in Colour has a lot of great songs that I listen to all the time but at this point I did not care if they were the Beatles. I was tired. After listening to a few songs we decided to pack up the gear and go down the the stage and stand with the people. It was dark and the lights on stage really added to the feeling. A few more songs and we both knew it was time to call it. We walked home as a few more songs played in the distance and we both felt like we got our money’s worth.

After getting home it was not long until I crashed. Great day and a lot of fun.
The Dark Sunday
We were both up early for a Sunday because we were going to hit a 12:30pm showing of The Dark Knight down the street.
Dog walked, breakfast done and watched Greg Norman bogey up a storm before it was time to go.
The Oxford is a classic, old theatre that is five minutes from our place so it was perfect to see a movie without the crowd.
We got our seats and I went for food. Fell for marketing and got one of the combos. The picture had a bag of popcorn but what I got was this giant Indiana Jones bucket that had Katie laughing pretty hard. Best part, we ate the whole thing.
Five wicked trailers before the movie and then finally it was time for some Batman. I was excited all weekend about this and it did not let me down.
I refuse to give anything away other than it was awesome. My only complaint, just to find one thing, was it could of been a little shorter but whatever. Go see this flick. Heath is creepy and amazing. I was excited every time he came back on the screen. Best Batman movie to date and I can’t wait for another one.
Okay gotta go make some dinner. Have a great rest of your Sunday.
