I was sad to read last week that William Petersen aka Gil Grissom is leaving CSI. I guess the show is finally running out of steam and soon will be fighting it out with ER for shows that just need to shut down.

There are a bunch of actors that have either been asked to take his place or have at least been talked about taking his place. Forget actors, what about NBA coaches? They have everything you need to lead a team of forensic scientists to victory.

Here are current and former NBA coaches that look and act the part and could take over for the vacated Grissom.

Jerry Sloan
- He is the ultimate leader. If he was not an NBA coach I would guess he would be fighting crime in some way. Could you imagine how scared Nick Stokes would be to miss a finger print at a crime scene with Sloan looking over his shoulder? Maybe they are waiting for CSI Utah to hit the air waves?

Phil Jackson -
The beard is enough to get him the job. Casual viewers might not even notice a change if they don’t pay attention the way Phil Jax and Gil look behind the desk. He has all the quirks of Grissom and will keep his team well versed on the triangle offense, the philosophy of life and why L.A. is better than Vegas. Can he solve crimes without a superstar lab technician though?

Larry Brown
- The show could easily be changed to WWLBD instead of CSI if this were to happen. You can bet the thing he would not do is make things easy. Brown has been a coach on every level so why night give him a shot at getting bad guys off the streets. Odds are he will come in, form a solid group of people who succeed and just when you think things could not get better, Brown will start looking to lead another team. Maybe CSI Miami? A word of advice to rookie cops, you won’t see much action with Larry manning the team.

Don Nelson -
This would be the crime unit I would want to work for. If Don Nelson was the captain of the CSI gang it would be an action packed show with a lot less theory and a lot more excitement. High profile cops from all over American would be looking to get on board for sure. Just think of it, you can bust criminals and not have to worry about playing defense.

Hubie Brown -
I have always been a fan of Hubie. He knows his stuff and I would think his police work would fall in line with that of Columbo.  You know, take the weirdest route to get to solving a crime. Better hurry though because Hubie is going to be calling it quits soon I would think. Can you picture HB walking around Vegas? Awesome.

The Van Gundy’s
- This would be a team effort. Stan looks like an asshole cop and Jeff looks like he should be working in a lab. Together they could run the CSI unit using the good cop, bad cop approach. Or one could take the day crew and one could take the night crew. Either way they know their x’s and o’s and Jeff is most likely up to speed on the show since he is a wizard when it comes to pop culture.

Who would you like to see running the ship on CSI next year?
