I have to keep remembering that this blog’s main focus is the Toronto Raptors. It is easy to get caught up in other sports and entertainment especially when it brings in the traffic. The summer is a hard time to really focus on your team and for me personally I like to take a step back and let it all form before taking a close look again.
Summer league games roll on, a few signings and a few departures have been the main news over the last few weeks.
Here is what has gone on over the last few days that you may have missed because you were out having fun.
- Primoz Brezec has left the team, heading to Europe to join Virtus Roma. The deal went down on Sunday. No big loss I think other than it is always nice to have big bodies on the bench.
- Carlos Delfino signed with Khimki BC, a team from Russia, last week, leaving the Toronto Raptors for nearly 3 million euros per season. That equates to an NBA salary of more than $9 million when you factor in the exchange rate and the tax money Delfino won’t have to give back. I am going to go play in Europe for that. I will kind of miss Carlos. He was a fighter and actually played defense. Plus the ladies will have to crown a new Rap-chelor this season.
- I forget where I read it but Jack Armstrong is close to signing a contract with TSN that will keep him on the air for Raptors games. Helllllooo! TSN might just actually be starting to care about hoops? Nah I am sure Jack will be doing hockey in no time.
- Joey Graham is killing in Summer league games. Sweet! Will it spill into the new season? Doubtful.
- Andrea Bargnani is shooting 5000 threes a day, wrestling with tigers and boxing out brick walls. Okay I made all of that up but that is what I am hoping he is doing.
What the other blogs are saying today:
AltRaps - “Two years ago when the Toronto Raptors won the Atlantic division I was as surprised as everyone else.”
The Arsenalist - “We’ll jump straight to some Maurizio Gherardini quotes where he’s talking about how there is an equal distribution of talent across the globe and that you’re as likely to find the next Michael Jordan in Azherbaijan as in North Carolina.”
Raptors Talk - “With the start of summer league action underway, all of the major unrestricted free agents signed, and the Raps all capped-out, its time to look forward to the fall.”
