In case you were not aware, the Summer Olympics start next week. If this is a surprise to you maybe it is because you can’t see it coming due to the nasty smog covering Beijing. I thought several summers in Toronto was bad, this stuff looks like pea soup.

Thanks to some rain Tuesday there was a bit of a clearing but it still looks like the 2008 Olympics are going to be influenced by the air quality. Chinese officials claim all will be good by the opening ceremonies but I am going to go out on a limb and say this was all planned.

Why would I say that? Well check out how the Chinese athletes have been training. They are ready for the smog and should clean up in gold medals without any problem.

Look at the guy behind, he can’t handle the air.

All that water won’t help without a gas mask ladies.

Even this swimmer is not taking any chances and he is training for the 2012 games.

Yao Ming did not get a mask and is going to just hold his breath.

I can see why sportsbooks have China listed as the favourite for most medals and most golds.
