Yeah I am sure that headline grabbed a few people for the wrong reasons but before you click away and get buzzed the old fashioned way, check out what the real buzz is about.

Today Yahoo launched their answer to Digg and it is called Yahoo Buzz.

Now I kind of feel bad for a friend of mine who had a blog called Buzz My Blog and one called Buzz Pirates. Will this hurt or help him? I am hoping for the latter of course. Too bad he is not getting cut.

Anyways back to the point here.

As I said, today Yahoo opened up new the Buzz tool to allow links to any site. Until now only about 400 people were allowed to post stuff.

By allowing anyone and everyone to post to Buzz, Yahoo could possibly gain better content but at the same time create openings for gaming the system like so many do with Digg.

Digg has a super crazy complex algorithm to attempt to combat spammers but eventually someone with a lot of time on their hands gets close to it and then they have to find a new one.

We all know the big prize for making a link popular on Digg is a trip to its front page which brings in a motherload of traffic. Cuzoogle has been lucky twice to date and it is crazy when it happens.

Those that make it to the top of Buzz mountain could find themselves with an even bigger treat. A prime spot on the Yahoo home page. Now that is really a good reason to get buzzed.

It is crazy to imagine Cuzoogle on the front page of Yahoo. Then again five months ago I thought that about Digg.

This all seems well and good for Yahoo to do this but what most will be wondering is do the people want it or even have time for it?

There is not enough time in a day to tackle shouts, stumbles, reddits etc. and now add buzzing to the list. Interns anyone?

I have been trying it out for the afternoon and it seems really easy and there are a number of categories to submit to. As a sports blog it is good to see Cuzoogle has a place to submit posts.

Now seems like a great time to use it and post some links since it has not been flooded yet.

There is even a WP plugin for it that adds a button under all of your posts. I am trying it out but there are not any options to customize where it appears.

Yahoo Buzz has some features that sets it aside from Digg and other social network sites. There are many factors other than buzzing up a link that decides what makes it to the top of Buzz.

Many of those fancy metrics are Yahoo-specific, such as searches on Yahoo search and the number of times users email the page to friends. This will make it hard to game or figure out unless someone knows someone who works at Yahoo. I am sure a lot of the theories will start to surface soon enough.

It should take some time to see if Yahoo Buzz will be successful but for sites like Cuzoogle and many other bloggers it can only be positive. It is another way to get your content out there, and Yahoo’s audience of a half billion is a giant number.

Get those dedicated servers ready because that is alot of people clicking around your site.

What are your thoughts on Yahoo Buzz?
