Every week T-Roc will share his thoughts on what is going on in college football, make picks and fire back at your nasty comments. Want to learn more about him, check out his first post or visit his archive.
October’s here, meaning it’s time for good Canadian males to focus on snowmobile tune-ups, bagging a moose and hockey. Recent developments, however, suggest T to the muthafuckin’ R-O-C might be more Yankee than Canuck at heart.
The Tuesday night hockey in Montreal was always the centerpiece of a November mini-vacation, but then an AC/DC show in Boston was added in. That left a choice over what to do on Saturday: Notre Dame / Boston College or Sabres / Bruins?
The Irish and BC rank Nos.1 and 2 among my most loathed football schools in America, but it was still no contest. Getting reasonably priced tickets for the Holy War might be tough, but fuck it - pigskin trumps puck for this kid… unless the Habs are involved.
All numbers are from Pinnaclesports.com from Tuesday night. And all apologies for calling a Wake Forest offensive explosion last week. Luckily, I wasn’t the only fucktard in North American football circles.
Duke at Georgia Tech, Saturday, noon ET: Duke +14 ½
Both schools are 3-1 with an identical points differential per game. So it’s only fair that I show just as much faith in Duke’s ascent under David Cutcliffe as I do Tech’s run-based rebirth as the Navy of the South under Paul Johnson.
The Jackets have won and covered four straight head-to-heads as a double-digit favourite but Duke’s defensive athleticism should keep things close (enough) on Saturday. Even if GT quarterback Josh Nesbitt’s wonky hammy is good to go.
Kansas at Iowa State, Saturday, 12:30 p.m. ET: Iowa State + 13
Kansas remains a nice team with an outside shot at a conference title, but folks in Lawrence are already looking at the four current Top-10 teams waiting for the Jayhawks down the road.

That’s not something I like to hear about a double-digit favourite on the road. Mark Mangino is a good motivator, but I like Gene Chizik’s youngsters to keep things respectable in Ames.
Ball State at Toledo, Saturday, 7 p.m. ET: Ball State -7 ½
Maybe I’m one of the multitude of squares overreacting to Toledo’s loss to Florida International. After all, the same Rockets took a then-ranked Fresno State team to overtime just a week before… fuck it. The Panthers? Really?
Ball State’s undefeated season took a significant downturn due to Dante Love’s career-ending injury, but the receiver’s upbeat attitude is playing no small part in the Cards’ dedication of the rest of the season to him.
Ohio State at Wisconsin, Saturday, 8 p.m. ET: Ohio State -1 ½
You’d think I’d learn after last week, but no - here I am, back on the Buckeyes, who haven’t covered a spread since 2007.

Last week’s non-payday, however, was a classic backdoor job by the Golden Gophers, simultaneous with Wisconsin choking away a Big Lead at the Big House. Normally I’d stay far away from a true frosh QB’s first road start, but Terrelle Pryor looked composed at the Coliseum, so Camp Randall shouldn’t kill the kid.
Texas at Colorado, Saturday, 8 p.m. ET: Colorado +14
Everything I said about the KU/ISU game above applies here too. Texas is on everyone’s hot list at the moment but mid-October games against Oklahoma and Missouri loom larger than Saturday’s matchup.
It’s homecoming weekend in Boulder and Colorado showed an ability to shine in the spotlight in its recent Thursday nighter against West Virginia. Texas likely heads to the Red River Rivalry undefeated, but I can’t ignore two touchdowns for the home team.
Missouri at Nebraska, Saturday, 9 p.m. ET: Missouri -11
Everything I said about KU/ISU and Horns/Buffs? Ignore it. I’m usually loathe to lay big points with a visiting favourite in a rivalry game, but Mizzou has a lot of past losses in Lincoln to atone for.

It’s homecoming weekend for Nebraska, too, but the Huskers are opening their Big 12 schedule against a team that hung 600+ yards on them last year. I say the Tigers aim for 700+ this time around.
Last week: 2-4 ATS
Year-to-date: 16-13-1 ATS
