Good Monday morning to all out there in the world. It is a cold one at Cuzoogle HQ and we are trying our best not to resort to turning on the heat for a few more weeks. Of course we are are supposed to get a shipment of firewood but sadly the company sucks and we are having annoying delays.
Whatever, at least there is Raptors ball to keep us warm (at least in excitement). Preseason hoops is not that exciting to get into other than seeing new players in new uniforms and seeing some wicked clips on the sports news. Teams are not really who they are just yet and it is a little like an appetizer as you wait for your main course.
Last night I had a very vivid dream of Jose Calderon getting traded for Deron Williams of the Jazz. Of course I was hyper in my dream and could not believe how stupid Utah was for doing a straight up deal like that.
It did give me a post idea and that is really the most important thing.
Here are some fairly realistic dreams for the upcoming Raptors season because trades like the one I mentioned don’t happen unless the Memphis Grizzlies are involved.
1. The Raptors live up to high expectations and fight it out with Boston for the Atlantic and East lead.
The big reason this could happen is of course because of Jermaine O’Neal being in town. He is going to add everything that the Raps missed last season and for that reason we are very excited.
Just in the few clips we have seen on the news or read about in the paper, he is already adding toughness and a new spark of life to the team.
Last night against the Lakers O’Neal was taking guys to the floor with hard fouls and for Raptors fans we have not seen that since the days of Matt Bonner creaming KG.
2. Andrea Bargnani grows as a player and makes the franchise not look stupid for picking him first overall. With JON on the inside now, Andrea will have less pressure to rebound and clog up the lane and more time to worry about getting that offensive game going again. With his size and shooting touch he could be a lethal cover at his position.
3. To not have every former Raptor torch the team when the play. Last season guys like Roger Mason Jr. kept having career games against the Raps and now that T.J. Ford is an enemy, it could happen again this year.
4. When the Raptors have leads they finish off teams and not fade at the end. Too many times last season Toronto jumped out to huge leads only to let teams come back and in most cases blow the game. Leading by 20 at halftime should equal out to a win and if they want to rise in the East they need to capture these games.
5. Finally one dream we have for the Raps this season is that they learned how to close out on three point shooters. Watching Orlando bomb away with no D in the playoffs is still fresh in our mind and it is about as frustrating as the firewood problem we mentioned earlier.
What do you the other Raptors fans dream of this season within reason. I know we all secretly dream of a title and the franchise is certainly moving in the right direction. Now it is just a matter of getting it done.
