Now before you bash the choices in the comments, remember it says “my” favourite. For the first time I did the smart thing and kept a list of all the movies good or bad that I watched in 2008 whether it be on dvd or at the movies. That certainly makes it easier to put together a best of list.
So here is it, the 10 movies that I saw and liked the most over the last 11 month and three weeks. The worst list will be coming soon and that one is a lot more fun.
Here they are in order of when I saw them.
1. Cloverfield - I went in with low expectations and really enjoyed this one. It was what it was and if you wanted more then you may of hated it. The tension was great and the concept was different. I did wonder where I could get one of those kick ass batteries for my camera though.
2. Gone Baby Gone - I had heard so much hype for this one from friends that it had little chance of living up to the build up. But it did. Still shake my head at the fact that Ben Affleck was behind this one but congrats to him. One of the best of the year (or last year).
3. Into The Wild - Loved this flick. It made me want to grow a beard and go camping. The music was legendary thanks to Eddie V and I will watch this one many times in the future. Made it even better to learn it was a true story.

4. Once - Okay so this one could fall under chick flick but who cares, I liked it a lot. The soundtrack was amazing and it was a cute story that does not end in a traditional way. It was not a blockbuster but it was a winner of the year (or last year haha).
5. Forgetting Sarah Marshall - Probably the most entertaining stupid comedy I saw this year. It had a bit of a story and introduced us to Russell Brand. The music was awesome and the laughs never stopped. Big props to that dracula puppet show.
6. The Promotion - A straight to video movie that I thought was well done. Stiffler of all people had a great role and pulled it off as a guy who works at a Walmart like store and fights for a promotion with that guy from Step Brothers (not Will). Very big laughs with a lot of classic Canadian stereotypes.
7. The Dark Knight - Yeah really going out on a limb here. This movie was the best I saw from start to end. The acting of Heath, the creepy music and the above average story line for a comic book made this the best of the best. I enjoyed it better the second time when I could really soak up how amazing the Joker was.
8. Burn After Reading - Easily the one I was looking forward to the most based on who wrote it and who was in it. Love the Coen Brothers and am a big fan of Brad Pitt. It did not disappoint from the bizarre story and great acting from a stellar cast. I only wish Brad was in the whole movie. Made me want to go for a quick run.

9. Recount - Yes it is a bit older and was on HBO but this movie rocked. I always love seeing a true story of how the United States messes something up. As per usual I came away wondering how the hell this kind of thing continues to happen.
10. Shark Water - A wicked documentary about how the shark is actually one of the most important creatures on the planet. It was also a drama in a way because it follows the story of the problems the crew ran into trying to make the movie. You come away with a different opinion of the shark. I think I referred to it as An Inconvenient Shark.
There you have it. The 10 films I enjoyed the most this year. How about you? Share some movies you loved in 2008.
Still looking for an Xmas gift for someone. How about an XMp3 player?
