Toronto Raptors at Detroit Pistons

I wish I had as much hope for my basketball team as I do for the World after watching many hours of Barack Obama yesterday. Sure the economy is in the crapper but listening to the President yesterday it just made you feel like everything is going to be okay eventually. Not so much for the Raptors. You listen to all of the sound clips of Chris Bosh and Jay Triano and you can just tell this team is on the verge of just losing all sense of winning any games. Bosh has lost faith in most of the team and Triano does not even know where to start in explaining the fundamentals of basketball to his club. It is a trainwreck and all of us are praying for the rumoured deal for Marion just to shake things up and possibly breath some life into the mess. Sadly the games keep going and tonight the Raptors have to go into Detroit and play a Pistons team that pretty much treats the Raps as their bitch. Stuckey will destroy the Raps at the point, Rasheed has special voodoo powers over Bosh and that is not even mentioning someone trying to guard Rip or AI. Another night, another loss ahead. I think I will go back to watching Obama speak on how he will fix America.

Here is everything you need to know for tonight’s game.

The Goods

  • Allen Iverson, Rodney Stuckey and Richard Hamilton are all in Detroit’s starting lineup, but according to the Pistons’ official Web site, Iverson and Hamilton are being considered as candidates to come off the bench as early as this matchup.
  • Detroit hasn’t lost to Toronto at home since falling 89-78 on April 2, 2003, beating the Raptors by an average of 11.0 points during the run.
  • Detroit snapped a five-game losing streak - its longest in five seasons - with an 87-79 win over Memphis on Monday. The Pistons got a combined 55 points from Iverson, Hamilton and Stuckey.
  • Toronto has dropped six straight and is 8-20 since a home win over the Hawks on Nov. 28 left it with its last winning record at 8-7.
  • Toronto managed only 33 points in the second half and made 2 of 18 3-pointers Monday in one of its worst offensive performances of the season.

For Bettors

  • The favorite is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings.
  • The Raptors are 2-5 ATS in the last 7 meetings in Detroit.
  • The Raptors are 1-6 ATS in the last 7 meetings.

Prediction

Making these predictions are getting depressing. There is no way the Raps can beat Detroit, even if the Pistons are not what they used to be. All of Toronto’s weaknesses will be on full display tonight and the Pistons will go at them all night long. Detroit will get bored and let Toronto get back in the game before doing just enough to win. Final score 96-89. boo.
