One week down and all’s well. Except for LeGarrette Blount. And Sam Bradford. And Al Groh. But whatever - I had a great Labour Day weekend, capped off by an unexpectedly awesome Miami-FSU game.
It was kind of like when you’re at an orgy and you’re having a great time and everything seems pretty well wrapped up and you’re just lying there, completely sated… and in walks a supermodel with misplaced morals and an open mind.
That’s what the Miami-FSU game was like. And all I can say to the ‘Canes and ‘Noles is… thank you.
I’m glad I’ve had a couple days to recover.
Here’s another sexy Saturday six, all odds from Pinnaclesports.com as of Wednesday evening.
Stanford at Wake Forest, noon ET: Stanford +3
First time in a long time I’ve bet against Wake but the magic’s gone, at least for this year. The ‘D’ lost the draft picks but Riley Skinner’s also out of top-notch targets.
Re: Toby Gerhart - did you think you’d ever see an underrated 1,000-yard rusher at a BCS-conference school who was white? Me either, before this season. America, you’re all right!
Pittsburgh at Buffalo, noon ET : Buffalo +10
I have to grab this line before it slides into single digits. Pitt only beat the Bulls by 11 at home last year and thumping Youngstown State isn’t filling me full of Panther love.
Fun fact: Buffalo was 7-0 ATS as an underdog on American soil last year. Plus, any time I can bet on a CFL alum like Turner Gill, I’m all over it.
Western Michigan at Indiana, noon ET: Western Michigan +1 ½
I’m a regular MAC Daddy this week. Last week’s results be damned, I’m all over the Broncos on the road.
The Hoosiers lost at home to both Ball State and Central Michigan last year. A pair of more-talented-yet-underdogged MAC schools. Sounds familiar.
TCU at Virginia, 3:30 p.m. ET : TCU -11
William & Mary? Fucking William & Goddamned Mary?!? The Cavs may as well have lost to the University of Kevin & Misty.
TCU’s opening its season already behind BYU in the minds of voters. The Horned Frogs will not hesitate to make statements against shitty opponents. And Virginia is shitty.
UCLA at Tennessee, 4 p.m. ET: Under 44 ½
These are two schools that religiously played games under the total last year, ‘cause the offences sucked and they hung their respective hats on defence.
It’s great if Jonathan Crompton thinks he got his mojo back against Western Kentucky last week, but UT’s topping out at 20 or 24 points against the Bruins.
Oregon State at UNLV, 11 p.m. ET: Oregon State -7
Last week’s results don’t give a lot to go by, but I’ll grab this line before it tops a touchdown. UNLV might be improved but the Beavers remain in the top half of the Pac-10.
In fact, now that Wake Forest is in a downturn, Oregon State’s my new “Most Likely to Bet On Without Seeing the Spread” school because the Beavs are continually underrated.
Last week: 5-1
2009 to date: 5-1
