Every week T-Roc will share his thoughts on what is going on in college football, make picks and fire back at your nasty comments. Want to learn more about him, check out his first post or visit his archive.

Holy shit, I love September, even now when I’m no longer in school, checking out who I’d like to be a T-Rockette.

It’s obviously a great time to be a sports fan, though my priorities have shifted over the years. Teenaged T-Roc spent September obsessed by the NFL, but the obsession has switched to college ball these days. The NFL has too much hype, not enough genuine storylines.

So here’s to college football, the most exciting, dramatic, controversial and exhilarating sport I know. It took me years to clue in, but I’m now as blissful on Saturday afternoons as I’ve ever been.

And here’s to Cuzzy’s newborn son, who had the good sense to arrive in the world on a Saturday afternoon, cementing his status as a lifelong college football fan. Young Cuzzy seems to have made his first shriek in the world at the same time Jahvid Best was running in his third touchdown against Minnesota last week. A Cal fan? He could do worse…

Here are six more Saturday plays, as I struggle to stay on the happy side of .500. All odds are from Pinnaclesports.com as of Thursday morning.

Fresno State at Cincinnati, noon ET: Cincinnati -17

Fresno State prides itself in taking on the big boys and winning, but this isn’t the right spot for the Bulldogs. Cincy’s absolutely cruising behind QB Tony Pike. Any David Wilcox fans out there? I’ll do the fucking Bearcat, all right.

Cincy’s a powerhouse under Brian Kelly whether we want to admit it or not. Not only are the Bearcats an automatic 10-win team these days, they can lay down 30-point wins over opponents with an actual pulse (you should try it sometime, Penn State).

North Carolina at Georgia Tech, noon ET: Georgia Tech -2 ½

This year’s Tech is a throwback to 2006, when only QB Reggie Ball’s inaccuracy kept the Yellow Jackets from the conference title. A Ramblin’ Wreck, indeed. Josh Nesbitt, the 2009 version of Ball, must have the worst touch of any starting QB in the BCS conferences.

That said, the rain’s gonna fall in Atlanta on Saturday and that suits Tech’s triple-option. I’ll grab this number before it jumps to a field goal.

Miami at Virginia Tech, 3:30 p.m. ET: Under 47

Both schools have talent on the offensive side of the football but both will rely more on defence as they shoot for the ACC Coastal crown.

Miami shut down a run-first attack last Thursday while VT’s defence allowed Frank Beamer to squeak out a win over Nebraska two days later. The score from the Huskers-Hokies game looks about right for Saturday in Blacksburg.

Boise State at Bowling Green, 7 p.m. ET: Bowling Green +16 ½

Boise State’s opening trio of wins have been mighty impressive, but this seems like a prime let-down spot for the Broncos. Not saying they’ll lose, but that’s an awful lot of points to hand a talented home team.

As long as the Falcons avoid the turnovers that cost them so dearly in Boise a year ago, Saturday’s game should stay reasonably close. Sheehan-to-Barnes, motherfuckers!

Vanderbilt at Rice, 8 p.m. ET: Under 48

I don’t think my cable provider will let me get this game. Even if it does, I won’t bother tuning in, given the other NCAA action on Saturday night.

Vandy’s topped 16 points against an FBS opponent only once since last September. As for Rice, the days of Chase Clement hooking up with Jarrett Dillard and James Casey are painfully over. Ugh.

Texas Tech at Houston, 9:15 p.m. ET: Texas Tech +1

Texas Tech looks better than expected without Graham Harrell. That Harrell can’t get a sniff of action with the Saskatchewan Roughriders underlines that Mike Leach, and not the QB du jour, deserves the credit for the Air Raid attack.

If the Cougars topple another Big XII powerhouse, then shame on me for doubting. It’s a chance I’ll gladly take this Saturday.
