You know something – over the last week or so I’ve really come to like Jarrett Jack!

The Raptors point guard finally said what I had been wanting to for weeks, ever since this ridiculous free agents summit involving LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, coming out and calling it laughable.

NBA Betting pundits suggest that he may not be the best point guard in the world, but the man speaks sense, and for that I wish him all the best as he continues his career with the Raptors, who knows possibly in a more prominent role next season if Jose Calderon leaves.

Jack has already started working out for next season (I like that as well, he just gets better) along with some of his Raptors team-mates, including DeMar DeRozan, who is going to be vital next season if none of the leading free agents decide that Canada is for them.

The former Pacers guard says he has not spoken to Bosh about his future in Toronto, and would not intervene in any way, but I did like his comments about getting things sorted out as soon as possible to at least try and start to make some plans for next season.

We all know without Bosh coming back things are going to be hard, with most NBA odds against them, but if a plan is in place to start work on building the squad, then it’s all good.

“The part that makes me crazy is this free-agent summit they are talking about. That’s the only part that is driving me up the wall. How they go about it is how they choose to, but I just think all of them are great players in their own right and they should just go wherever they feel comfortable,” he said in an interview.

“I don’t think they need to meet each other and get nudged by anyone other than themselves. I would never hear of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson meeting up to see what’s going on.”

Sadly Jack’s own future in Toronto is not a certain one. He was rumoured to have asked for a trade last week, something he denied as pure speculation, but his contract is more valuable to other teams than Calderon’s. I just hope he doesn’t go – I’ve only just started liking him!
