The free agent merry-go-round has started, fairly slowly to be honest, and no-one is any the wiser about where Chris Bosh is going to end up, apart from it seeming very unlikely we’ll ever see him in a Raptors jersey again.

I’m just hoping that the talk from NBA Betting pundits over the past few days of a sign-and-trade do come true, so that at least the front office have the pleasure of adding some warm bodies to the roster to replace the wantaway star.

Most of the rumours, and that is all they are at the moment, seem to be pointing CB4 to either Miami or Chicago, and both of those clubs have the kind of players who might just be impact makers in Toronto.

The first rumour I read had the Raptors receiving Mario Chalmers, Michael Beasley and Joel Anthony, even though he’s not even under contract in Miami, from the Heat, who would end the free-agent season with the NBA’s new Dream Team in place, heading for the championship on the back of Bosh, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James – talk about being greedy!

Chalmers is a nice point guard, nothing flashy, but a far more defensive presence than Jose Calderon, although his steals numbers did drop in his second season in the league in 2009/10.

But he is a more than serviceable starter, albeit one who could do with becoming a little more selective in his shooting, and he did up his game in Miami’s all-too-brief stay in the Eastern Conference play-offs.

But it is the Chicago side of the apparent deals on offer that interest me a lot more, especially the ones that involve Hedo ‘My Favourite Player’ Turkoglu heading off as well – he did try to appease fans a little in the last week, but I’m not buying it, bitter old scribe that I am!

The Bulls have some lovely young pieces that would suit me down to the ground, especially sophomore forward Taj Gibson, who would come in and play Bosh-lite style basketball, rebounding with venom and hopefully continuing to improve his offense as well.

Apparently some NBA Bets believe that Luol Deng could even become involved in a deal, and although his contract is not an ideal one to be adding, he is an offensive wizard inside the three-point arc, and I’ve always rooted for him since he decided to play for my national side, Great Britain.

As yet nothing to report for sure, but it seems likely that will change by the time I speak to you all again this time next week.
