Now I have read it all. Coming soon to a social media universe near you is insurance for those who feel the need to go overboard on Twitter or Facebook and call their boss a big fat cow.

I guess this all makes sense, where there is people slamming people, there is an opportunity for people to make money off of it.

Malcolm Randles, who issues cyber insurance policies for Kiln, a subsidiary of Lloyd’s of London, said brokers in Canada are keeping a keen eye on social media trends and are beginning to develop coverage for the consequences of unruly posts.

Yay for Canada leading the way in something that is not hockey related.

The liability risk stems from the fact that many companies don’t appear to be establishing clear, written policies for social networking, said Eric Dolden, a Vancouver-based insurance lawyer with Dolden Wallace Folick LLP.

Now this is all high profile, big business stuff but from the sounds of it, in the next five years or so, every dude or chick with a Twitter account will be able to take out insurance on what they say.
