Hey all, we have been on vacation for a week now and everything has been great so far. Last Saturday we left for Toronto from a cold and rainy Halifax. We were all very excited to get out of Nova Scotia and to experience some warm weather finally. I had not even worn shorts yet this year before hitting the T-Dot.

Since I am typing on a little Mac keyboard I am just going to wrap up the trip so far in point form. Then after I will give my two cents on the NBA lockout that started yesterday.

Saturday - June 25th

  • Dropped pets off at the Kennel in Dartmouth. Easy trip, they are having fun I am sure.
  • Harry napped to get ready for his first trip on Porter.
  • Cold and rainy trip to the airport.
  • Hung out waiting for our plane and Harry loved all the trucks out on the landing strip area. Some of the baggage guys even waved at us. For those that don’t know it, trucks are Harry’s fave these days (until later on in the trip).
  • Flight was pretty easy with free beer and wine. Harry was squirmy but all in all I would give it a B for fun experience. I did spill a glass of coke on myself but I blame Porter because they ran out of beer on the second part of the trip.
  • Landed, got out stuff and got to experience the Ferry from the Porter airport. That was a lot of fun even if it was a 2 minute ride.
  • Got picked up by JPR and were home in a flash.
  • Hot food and family were waiting for us and it was great to be back in Toronto after a few years.
Sunday - June 26th
  • Up early to drive to Corunna for a few days to see my parents, sister, her better half and my niece and nephew. My niece, Josie, was only born a few days before we got there so it was great timing to be there.
  • Drive was pretty easy other than a weird detour around Hamilton.
  • We stopped in Woodstock to see a friend, visited for a bit and were back on the road.
  • Got to Corunna around 3pm and had something to eat.
  • We all went over to my sisters for a big visit and BBQ dinner. There was a small swimming pool for the kids that Harry quickly was in.
  • Headed back to my parents after dinner to hang out in the trailer that we were staying in before we all went to sleep.
  • This was after Katie and I did a quick walk around town just to see if anything has changed. Not really.
Okay, so that was the first few days of the trip. I will continue with more later on.
Before getting back to the last few days of this vacation, here is my thoughts on the NBA lockout.
I think the NBA owners will sacrifice and entire season for what they think is making the game (in their eyes) better long term. Both sides have some solid beefs and both sides have mistakes to fix and that is why I see it going long. It is really too bad since we just had a great season with an exciting playoffs.
Last summer was dominated by “the decision” and this summer is going to be dominated by the lack of a decision. Regardless of who is right and who is wrong, it is the fans and everyone who makes their living from the NBA that gets screwed. I hope for a quick resolution but am bracing for no hoops next season.
