With the 2011-2012 NBA season still very much up in the air, there is very little news to talk about other than the odd player planning to go overseas or what happened at the latest pickup game.
For those looking to wager online, there is even less to look forward to other than future odds.
One sportsbook betting site, has listings for who will win the 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year and the favorite is currently Derrick Williams of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
He was one of the most coveted players in the draft and based on the way he finished the 2011 NCAA tourney, Minnesota fans have every right to be excited. He could be the power forward they need to take a step back to being relevant in the NBA again.
What if you are not a member of the D-Williams fan club?
Well there are several other worthy candidates in a wide open field if you ask us.
Would you be willing to bet of the little known Enes Kanter who will be invisible in Utah or do you go with one of the more public and popular names like Jimmer Fredette or Kemba Walker?
Fredette has been ripped on for months that he can’t take his game to the NBA level but with someone who can shoot like that, he is certainly a wildcard.
Other interesting players in the field include Kyrie Irving, Brandon Knight and of course Ricky Rubio.
Rubio has the most room to play with being in Minnesota. They are going to turn the keys over completely and it will be Rubio’s team to lead or sink. Yes, they have Williams but a PG runs the show.
Interested in taking the field? How about the Jonas Valanciunas of the Toronto Raptors? Sure centers take longer to develop but he put up huge numbers for Lithuania recently. Something to think about anyways.
If we had to make a pick taking everything from playing time to TV time into account, we would have to go with Kemba Walker. I know, I know, he is little and all that but we are still loving him from the Final Four. He is a true leader and I would be surprised if he is a NBA bust.
