Before I begin I want to make clear that at anytime during the reading of this post, the NBA players and owners may come to an agreement. So if there is sounds of cheers and NBA fans running in the street while reading this, don’t be confused.

I am however confident that none of that will happen and you will be safe to move forward with the NBA season still in jeopardy.

As it stands, the NBA season was to start in a matter of a few days but we have been already robbed of a month of games. As each failed day of negotiations goes by, more and more games go down the toilet.

We all get (even those looking at the best mobile bookmakers) what it means on the grand stage of the sport – no games, no season, no awards, no fantasy leagues, no playoffs etc.

But what about the underlying stories that will be lost. What about the true bummers of not having a NBA season.

Here are just 10 that we could think of and please forgive if some are a little more close to home (we know many of you don’t care about the Toronto Raptors).

Was this to be the year of the Thunder?

The Lakers are getting old, the Mavericks will be less hungry and the Spurs are ancient. This was to be the year of the Thunder. Kevin Durant and company were to be the new kings of the west. They were to be on the road to the NBA Finals. Sure that could still happen, they are young. But you never know what the future holds and when you have the team in place, you go for it ASAP. We will have to settle for Durant scoring 400 points in a pick up game every now and then.

Memphis has to stay in hibernation

What a bummer for the fans of the Grizzlies. Is there a team more burned by a lockout? They were the darlings of the playoffs last year and about to get Rudy Gay back. They were gonna take on the West and prove they were more than a fluke. Fans were hyper and ready to rock. Now they will have to wait a year and then have to try and rekindle the magic. Who knows if Zach can do it again.

One more good year of Steve Nash lost

This is by far the biggest bummer for me as a basketball fan. Sure the Suns are not very good anymore but watching Steve Nash play basketball is right up there with cheese fries. He is an artist and it sucks that we are being robbed of a season of one of the best point guards ever. He will still play again, but age is not his friend.

The Celtics and Lakers are running out of time

The Celtics especially might as well call it a night. One more year on the Big 3 is going to pretty much end their run. Rondo aside, this team will miss one last shot at making a run in the East. The Lakers are not that far behind. Sure Bynum is a kid still and a year off for his body could be the best thing ever, but Kobe is no spring chicken. Sure he will still be one of the best in the game still next season, but he won’t be able to carry the Lakers to the top. No season this year means bye bye Celtics and Lakers.

No Blake Griffen dunks

Pretty self explanatory, ESPN won’t be the same.

Seeing if the Mavericks could repeat?

It is always great to see how a team makes a run at a repeat. Is the hunger still there, was it a fluke in the first place? I think the Mavs have everything to repeat right now. But add a year on to the whole thing and who knows. Besides, what is Cuban going to do with all that time?

Orlando fans may have seen the last of Superman

The fans of the Orlando Magic may have seen Dwight Howard in uniform for the last time. Sad for Florida but great news for those teams with big pockets and Hollywood perks (looking at you L.A. Which means ignore my above statement of the Lakers being done).

Will not get to see if Jimmer is for real

We will not be able to put to rest the debate over whether Jimmer Fredette will be a good NBA player or not. Yes this was the hot button topic on everyone’s mind right?

The continued rise of DeMar DeRozan

As a blog for the Toronto Raptors, I had to throw in one bummer as a fan. Sure the lockout should help the Raptors in the long run to compete and they were going to have a bad year anyways but no season means a stunted growth cycle for DeMar DeRozan. The future star of the Raptors will have to settle for a lot of workouts and gym time and maybe a few pick up games at USC? Anyways, not good for a rising talent to have to wait a full season.

Resorting to betting on hockey

Yep, what are NBA fans going to bet on? Sure NCAA hoops is the obvious choice but college sports is so unpredictable. I guess it is time to bone up on how to bet on NHL hockey.

There you have it, 10 reasons to be bummed out for no NBA basketball this year.

What are you most bummed about with the looming possibility of no NBA season?
