Something crazy occurred to me watching the Raptors broadcast the other night.

No, it wasn’t the fact this Raptors team was giving its fans everything they hoped for – a solid, entertaining effort each night that inevitably ends in a loss. Nor was it that Jeremy Lin may be a legit NBA point guard and not just a David Stern wet dream that not only talks to the Tebow-starved, Christian superfan while simultaneously attracting the much coveted Asian market.

No, it wasn’t either of those. Rather what caught my attention was the fact that “Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance” has not even been in theatres yet.

Seriously, weren’t we seeing the media blitz for this movie a month ago? It certainly seemed that Nicholas Cage and his fiery, hellish eyes were being seen on every commercial break from NBA broadcasts to reruns of Glee (not that I watch that show). Once it had gone quiet I had assumed it had come and gone from the theatres quicker than Cage’s career went from respectable to floundering.

But this wasn’t case as those Beelzebub influenced eyes have yet again been permeating every Raptors commercial break for the last week.

What’s worse, I noticed Stringer Bell (aka Idris Elba) has lent his good name to this movie. Come on String, you’re career still has some promise on this side of the pond (Elba is from England and is an Arsenal supporter – good man) so I suggest you back away from Cage slowly and start running as fast as you can when you’re just far enough.

But perhaps this double media blitz will work its magic and more people will end up seeing this movie. I might go solely because I feel sorry for Cage and the fact he’s so desperate for money after his legal tribulations that he can’t turn down a single script – just go see “Season of the Witch” for proof.
